Overview
i2 TextChart offers the solution to overcome the challenges associated with assimilating and importing unstructured data into an entity-link structured iBase database designed specifically for investigative analysis. It enables you to quickly and accurately derive analysis-ready data from unstructured text and combine it with structured data, adding value to your investigation database.
In addition, important information may be held as unstructured data in your iBase database, stored as multi line text fields or as embedded documents. Unstructured data stored within the database is difficult to analyze, and may go unnoticed during investigations.
By using iBase and TextChart together, you can push unstructured text stored in an iBase database into TextChart, extract and visualize the important information, then populate your iBase database with the structured results. There is no need to re-key information, giving you complete control over your data. As part of this process, additional information can be incorporated from other unstructured data sources such as office documents, emails and internet web pages.
Capturing and maintaining data is a team effort involving different personnel and physical resources. The ultimate goal is to populate an iBase database with accurate, graded information of traceable provenance. Users will find using TextChart and iBase together a natural and efficient method to visualize and transfer content into their iBase database, enabling incorporation into much wider analysis tasks.
Enables end-to-end management of your unstructured information - push content from iBase into TextChart, visualize it to give it structure, and then add the visualized information back into your iBase database.
Streamlines the input of unstructured free-text information into iBase - the speed of data capture is more efficient due to the optimized data capture process, thereby increasing user productivity.
Achieves accurate and consistent data capture from text-based sources - the accuracy of data capture is improved as data is extracted from the source documents; no re-keying or transcription is required resulting in fewer errors.
Provides effective entity-link extraction and visualization of unstructured data - identify real world objects including entities, links and their corresponding property information, transforming unstructured content into structured, analysis-ready data.
Uncovers high value information held in unstructured data sources - tap into unstructured information that would otherwise go unused, and share the visualized, structured content across the investigating team, empowering analysts to make informed decisions.
Delivers assisted manual entry - extends the potential community of people who can generate data for your iBase database.
Load content from iBase into TextChart - you can select any multi-line text field, multi-line text (append only) field, or document field in the iBase database for mark up in TextChart - the content is added either to a new workspace or to an existing one. In TextChart, you can display each field as a separate document or you can consolidate fields from the same record into a single document.
Generate templates - generate a TextChart template that will enable you to load data captured in TextChart into your iBase database, or to work with a live connection. To preserve database security, you can generate templates for particular users, setting user permissions to determine the entity types, link types, and fields that will be available in the TextChart workspace; facilitating enhanced data integrity and simplifying subsequent analysis.
Validate templates - iBase can check that a TextChart template created or modified outside of iBase will be compatible with an iBase database.
Real-time live connection to an i2 iBase database - The optional live connection between TextChart and iBase allows the TextChart user to find, create, and/or update data in an iBase database, and to use that data as part of a TextChart visualization. In addition, new data that has been created in a TextChart visualization can be added directly into a connected iBase database.
Produce visualizations - TextChart visualizations are created by marking up data from external documents that are not part of the iBase database and/or by marking up data selected from the iBase database. Visualizations comprise one or more source documents, markup of the source documents, and a chart.
Load visualizations – If your TextChart users do not or should not have access to your iBase database, completed visualizations can still be loaded into an iBase database using the TextChart loader. During loading, new entities and links are created automatically; you are only prompted to intervene if data from the visualization matches an existing record in the i2 iBase database, or if mandatory data is missing.
Load marked up documents - TextChart maintains a detailed record of all the source documents used for each piece of information held in the visualization. You can load the marked up source documents directly into your iBase database, automatically linking it to all the entities and links extracted from it as part of the data loading process, thereby maintaining a traceable history. Where content is sourced from an iBase database, a link can be maintained to the original parent iBase entity or entities.
Security - iBase user security permissions can be used to control the amount of database schema information released to TextChart users, keeping knowledge of your database structure secure at all times.

i2 iBase User Course
Aimed at anyone who wishes to use i2 iBase databases that have already been developed within your organization. It is not necessary to attend this course if you have already attended the i2 iBase Designer course.
Gain a comprehensive understanding of how to use i2 iBase using a variety of example databases.
A combination of lecture, hands-on work and exercises will be used in this interactive course.
i2 iBase Designer Course
Designed for developers and investigators who wish to create database applications with a connection to the i2 Analyst’s Notebook
During the course you will learn how to use an i2 iBase database. You will then design and create a variety of databases for storing and analyzing information including people, organizations, bank accounts, vehicles and related objects.
