Accessing multiple sources of data is a key factor in the success of many investigations. Within investigative organizations, the number of data sources is increasing but the data in these data sources is generally disparate, inconsistently formatted and often incomplete. Valuable information is often isolated within departments, so that those needing this information cannot easily obtain it.
i2 has an innovative solution to overcome the issues surrounding the sharing of information across multiple data sources. i2’s iXa technology allows the user to connect to iXa enabled data sources, irrespective of type, across local or global networks. Previous 'islands of data' can be connected together to make existing information readily available.
i2 iXa technology is based on a secure web services architecture, which allows the seamless connection of iXa clients such as i2 iXa Search AN to a range of iXa-enabled data sources. Results are then available for analysis and visualization using i2 Analyst's Notebook®.

i2 iXa Architecture
iXa is a simple and secure method to share information with confidence. It allows access to data sources on the Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), intranet and internet and is flexible enough to support leading security standards for authorization, authentication and encryption.
As not all information is held within databases, iXa is based on an open architecture allowing connectivity to email servers, applications and other web services. By not restricting connectivity to a single type of data source, it enables users to gain access to even more types of data and under-utilized sources of information.
Varied server environments need not be a hurdle to data integration. iXa web services can be implemented on any server environment able to support web services. i2 provides i2 iXa Web Services SDK 2 to facilitate the creation of iXa web services.
In the iXa architecture, the iXa web service acts as an interface to the data source. It is not necessary to port, modify, or replicate data in any way. The web service can be easily integrated into existing data access architecture and can be developed to work with existing middleware solutions. iXa is fully scalable, enabling organizations to grow without being constrained by limitations in software.
